A paved park road through Look Park in Florence on an early-fall afternoon — tall pine and deciduous trees arching overhead with yellow-green canopies, a wooden-slat bench set on a patch of rust-brown pine needles beside low fieldstone edging on the left, leaf-littered grassy shoulders, dense leafy understory on the right, and the asphalt path curving off into dappled sunlight under a soft bright sky.

Frank Newhall Look Memorial Park (Look Park to everyone who goes there) sits on 150 acres at 300 North Main Street in Florence, just off Route 9 in Northampton. It’s a classic summer-afternoon destination: a steamer train loops the grounds, pedal boats ply a small pond, the Christenson Wildlife Center houses a small collection of animals, and a water spray park keeps kids cool in July and August. There’s also a mini-golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, and miles of walking paths.

General park hours are dawn to dusk, with vehicle entry from 7am to dusk. Vehicle entry is $5 Monday through Thursday and $10 Friday through Sunday and holidays; cyclists and walkers get in free, and handicap placards get complimentary entry. Individual attractions (train, boats, mini-golf, spray park) each have their own small fee. Call the park office at (413) 584-5457 or see the activities page for current rates.
