The Franklin County Fair, run by the Franklin County Agricultural Society, has been held every year since 1848, making it one of the longest continuously running agricultural fairs in the United States. It takes place over four days in mid-September at the fairgrounds on Wisdom Way in Greenfield. The present fairgrounds date to the mid-1860s.
The fair retains an unusually strong agricultural focus: livestock competitions (dairy cattle, oxen draws, sheep, poultry), a horticultural hall, a woodsmen’s competition, and vegetable and baking judging fill most of the schedule. A smaller midway, a horse show, live music on the grandstand, and a demolition derby round out the program.
