The Manhan Rail Trail follows the former New Haven & Northampton Railroad corridor for about 6 paved miles, from a southern trailhead in Southampton through the heart of downtown Easthampton and out across the Manhan River meadows toward Northampton. A 2017 tunnel beneath Route 10 closes the last gap to Elwell State Park in Northampton, where the trail meets the Norwottuck Rail Trail and the Northampton Bikeway.
Highlights
- Downtown Easthampton. The trail passes directly through the Eastworks/Keystone Mill district, with cafés and a bike shop steps from the path.
- Nashawannuck Pond. The trail skirts the north edge of the pond, with benches and a summer boat rental on the water.
- Manhan Meadows. The north half crosses Connecticut River floodplain, open and flat, with seasonal wildflowers and good sightlines for sunset rides.
